24th September 2005 - Ladies’ Circle National President’s Ball – Birmingham

From Colchester’s Euro Weekend I headed straight up the M1 to Birmingham’s NEC – at least an hotel on the site – to attend Rhian Fear’s President’s Ball. An excellent turn out of Circlers and Tablers had already convened in the bar on my arrival. It was fascinating and amusing to see the looks on the faces of fellow guests from The Church of Scientology as they watched numerous Circlers walking around in their Pink Pyjamas. The National Council Meeting had been themed as part of ‘Think Pink Month’ in support of Cancer Research UK – one of Circle’s National Charities – and resplendent they all looked too!

The evening’s function was superb. Over 150 people sat down with Rhian and her guests for an excellent meal and live entertainment that had the dance floor packed until 2am when the lights went up and sensible people headed for their beds… One of the few downsides of being your National Vice President is that sometimes you have to forego the niceties of things like sleep to enjoy the fun and friendship that can be found at the bar in the early hours of the morning. I may not have got to bed as soon after 2am as some others!

Thanks to Rhian and her PLC for a really special night, especially Darren and Alison Gray for organising! I was delighted to hear that Rhian’s charity – The Cystic Fibrosis Trust - benefited so well from the function. It is a special charity that does so much for people.  Well done, too, the Killarney Conference Team for donating half of their raffle funds to the cause.
